HELSINKI, FINLAND, February 2025: The veterinary industry experienced unprecedented shifts in recent years driven by changing client expectations, technological advancements, and lingering COVID-19 effects. Provet Cloud, a leader in cloud-based veterinary software, commissioned a large-scale survey in September 2024 of 600 veterinary professionals from the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe to analyze these dynamics.
The company has released data from the survey in its 2025 Veterinary Insights Report.
The survey includes responses from those who work in veterinary practice, offering a comprehensive look at the profession’s key challenges and opportunities in three domains: staffing and working conditions, business dynamics, and practice management.

Among the many insights to be gleaned from the survey, the report finds that:
- Staff are undervalued but still love the work
Job satisfaction varies across regions, with the US and Italy reporting relatively high satisfaction rates (74% and 73%, respectively), compared with only half the professionals in Spain and the UK. This suggests that actors like workplace culture and fair compensation might be important to shaping perceptions of job value. - Demand is up, but profitability lags
Most respondent practices report increased service demand in the past year, but 56% of small clinics and 44% of corporate practices report declining profitability, likely a result of rising costs, inflation, and slower pet adoption rates, among other factors. - Client loyalty is also shifting
Data shows that two-thirds of all practices struggle to keep clients, and the biggest competitive wedge is pricing. While larger clinics and chains benefit from economies of scale, smaller practices must differentiate with personalized services and other retention strategies. - Practices are warming to new technology
More than half the survey respondents believe patient care and efficiency is improved with digital tools and advanced technology. This positive outlook suggests that modern solutions’ ability to streamline operations, communications, and other challenges enables practices to focus more strongly on patient care.
Pasanen added, “This report shows that concerns about staffing, mental health, and profitability are top of mind. But the data holds promise: despite high rates of work-related stress, overall job satisfaction remains strong. The people in-clinic also recognize the vital role of new technologies to reduce workload. These insights are important as we continue investing in Provet Cloud to meet the complex needs of veterinary teams.”
