“Saving five minutes per consult does add up when you have 20 to 30 a day. It helps me get home for my kids’ bath time.”
When Punit Rawal and his spouse opened Fauna Veterinary Clinic in 2022, their goal was clear: to deliver veterinary care that felt personal, calm, and family-owned.
“Just after Covid, we realized that veterinary care needed a change, needed to be more personal, needed that family-owned touch,” Punit explains. Their vision was shaped by experiences in other clinics, integrating the best aspects of what they had seen into a completely new model.
For Punit, the clinic itself is a “physical journey” for pets and owners. The patient pathway moves from the front of the practice to the back, down to the clinical area, creating a structured flow that reduces clutter and stress. “Knowing where to go rather than crisscrossing – it helps our dogs and our cats feel a bit more relaxed. All of our clients say that their pets seem more at ease here compared to previous practices,” he says.
The aesthetic plays a key role, too. Soothing colors, homely touches, and relaxing music contribute to a calm, welcoming environment. “Pets like coming in, and therefore pet parents like coming in,” Punit notes.
Laying a foundation for connection and community
Central to Fauna’s mission is the idea of a veterinary “revolution,” starting with extended consultations. While typical UK appointments last 10–15 minutes, Fauna guarantees a minimum 20-minute consultation for every patient. “With those 10 or 15 minutes extra, it allows us to build a relationship with the pet and the pet parent,” says Punit. “Pet parents understand better why we’re doing what we’re doing and can connect clear value to our service fees.”
Being an independent clinic also allows Fauna to foster a true community. “I know each and every patient who walks through the door by name. We’ve created a community of pet parents and pets,” Punit says. The connection is tangible – dogs often lead their owners straight into the clinic for a treat, even after regular vaccinations.
Technology as the clinic’s heart
From the outset, Punit, a self-described “techie” and early adopter, prioritized the practice management system. “The PMS was kind of the first thing that we looked at. It is the heart and the hub of the clinic. If your PMS doesn’t work well, your clinic doesn’t run well either,” he explains. Cloud-based systems were essential to avoid on-premise servers, while user experience was critical: “If a user interface looks like I don’t want to use it, I don’t like using it. I am very picky.”
After evaluating several systems, Punit chose Provet for its intuitive interface and robust integrations. “Integrations with laboratory, integrations with our X-ray machine are all very important. It just saves time on other things that we could be doing to make a patient better,” he says. Payment solutions like Provet Pay streamline end-of-day reconciliation, minimizing human error and allowing the team to leave on time.
Implementing Provet
Punit personally led the implementation in the six months before Fauna’s opening, enjoying the control and process. “It was just me. I did everything myself. Once that was done, that was the majority of the work,” he recalls.
Provet also provided a smooth learning curve for everyone on the Fauna team. “Provet is definitely less daunting to the less tech-savvy. Different people in the clinic have different pathways to achieve something, and that’s great,” he notes.
AI tools and efficiency gains
Fauna’s adoption of Provet’s AI tools has further increased efficiency. The AI Scribe, used by vets and nurses, saves roughly five minutes per consultation while capturing useful details that might otherwise be missed. “Saving five minutes per consult does add up when you have 20 to 30 a day. It helps me get home for my kids’ bath time as well,” Punit says.
Financial efficiencies are equally significant. With Provet Pay, client payments are zeroed off immediately, and accurate debtor and creditor reports are generated in real time. “Being able to send payment requests on multiple platforms really helps,” Punit adds.
Looking ahead with Provet
While Fauna is still focused on growing its first clinic, Punit has ambitions for multiple locations. He sees Provet’s cloud-based model as a key enabler of scalable growth: “Being cloud-based, we won’t have to upgrade our servers. We can just copy and paste onto a new location.”
Punit likens Provet to a very familiar environment: “I always compare Provet to the Apple ecosystem. It just works. As a first-time business owner, you always make some mistakes, but choosing Provet wasn’t one of them.”
With its patient-focused design, extended consultations, and smart use of technology, Fauna Veterinary Clinic exemplifies how innovation, care, and efficiency can come together in modern veterinary practice – delivering better outcomes for pets, clients, and the clinic team.
