Ask Provet: Get Answers About Your Practice’s Performance in a Conversation

AI & Automation
Ask Provet

It's the last day of the month. You need to know how your clinic performed, and the answer is scattered across the invoice report, the payments report, and a spreadsheet you exported three days ago that's already out of date. So you stitch it together by hand, hope you opened the right reports, and make the call on staffing or debt collection with a number you're only half sure of.

Ask Provet replaces that work with a conversation.

What is Ask Provet?

Ask Provet is part of Provet's native AI, designed to assist your team rather than replace their judgment. It empowers you to ask operational questions about your practice in plain language, the way a practice manager might ask a colleague, and get an answer in seconds, drawn from your data.

It starts with your finances. "How are clients paying us?" "How much did we bring in this month?" "Who owes us money?" Ask Provet pulls the numbers from across invoices, payments, debt, items, and health plans, brings them back in one place, and tells you what they mean. More data sources will follow.

No new login. No separate tool. No copy-paste between systems. You open Provet, open Reporting, and ask away.

See the why, not just the number

Most reporting tools hand you a figure and leave you to work out what it means. Ask Provet goes further.

You might ask "How was revenue this month?" and it won't just return a total. It can tell you procedure revenue dropped in the third week, then offer to break that down by veterinarian or by department. Every answer comes with Provet's analysis layered on top, drawn from how veterinary clinics actually run, plus a suggestion for what to ask next.

When a chart makes the point faster than a sentence, Ask Provet builds one. It builds charts and graphs for data visualization so you can see a revenue trend or a payment-method split at a glance, right there in the conversation.

Three places to start with Ask Provet

You don't need to know the perfect question to get value on day one. Open the panel and you'll see three starting points:

  1. Financial position - revenue, debt aged by bucket, and how clients are paying you.
  2. Operational health - revenue per consultation, revenue per veterinarian, service mix, markup, and health plans.
  3. Needs attention - 90+ day debtors, failed payments, plan renewals, and unusual discount spikes.

Tap one and you have a clear read on where the clinic stands the moment the panel opens. From there, just keep on asking.

Built for people who run clinics, not analysts

Practice managers are increasingly asked to be operators. Often they came to the role from a clinical background, without the spreadsheet background that tends to come with the job. Ask Provet doesn't assume you know which report to open or how a profit and loss statement is structured.

Say you're a practice manager wondering whether your health plans are actually growing. Today that might mean exporting subscription data and building a pivot table. With Ask Provet, you ask "Are health plan subscriptions growing?" and the answer comes back, drawn from the right data, explained the way a colleague would explain it.

Or it's a Monday morning and you want to know what slipped over the weekend. "Show me failed payments from the last seven days." There's your list, no report-hunting required.

Can I trust Ask Provet’s responses?

An answer about your practice is only useful if you can trust it, so Ask Provet is built to keep mistakes rare. It's tested against a documented set of evaluation scenarios, and when it can't answer something, or a question falls outside what it covers today, it tells you rather than guessing.

Like any AI tool, it won't be right every single time. If an answer looks off, you can flag it, and those reports feed directly into making Ask Provet more accurate over time. Your practice data is never used to train the underlying models.

The data is pulled from the same data warehouse that powers the Invoice Report and the Payments Report. No exports, no lag, no stale figures.

Your data stays yours

Ask Provet is only shown to users who already have reporting permissions: practice owners, managers, and finance admins with both the Can Access Invoice and Can Access Reports Financial permissions. Row-level security is enforced at the database, your data is isolated from every other clinic's, and your permission ID travels with every request. Ask Provet can't show you anything you couldn't already see in Provet. Your chat history is kept for 60 days.

When can I use Ask Provet?

Ask Provet is generally available now. It comes at no extra charge, with no add-on subscription, for anyone with the required reporting permissions.

This is the first version. It starts with your practice finances, and more data sources will follow. Exporting answers as charts, CSV, or Excel is on the way too, along with cross-location views for groups and peer benchmarking.

For now, the question you've been stitching reports together to answer is one message away.

FAQs

Who can use Ask Provet?

Practice owners, practice managers, and finance admins. Both the Can Access Invoice and Can Access Reports Financial permissions are required.

What kinds of questions can I ask?

To start, anything about your practice finances: outstanding debt, aged debtors, revenue trends, collection rate, payment methods, top-earning services, top-earning veterinarians, health plan subscriptions, failed payments, discount usage, and items and pricing. More data sources will follow. The three opening prompts cover the most common starting points.

Where does the data come from?

The same data warehouse that powers the Invoice Report and the Provet Pay Payments Report. Ask Provet sits on top of it as a conversational layer, and the data is direct from your practice.

Is my clinic's data private?

Yes. Row-level security is enforced at the database, your data is isolated from other clinics, and your permission ID is passed through with every request, so you only ever see data you are already entitled to see.

How long is my chat history kept?

Conversations are stored for 60 days.

Can it make mistakes?

Yes, like any AI tool. When Ask Provet isn't sure or can't answer, it will say so instead of guessing. If something still looks wrong, flag it and we'll use that to sharpen future answers. Your practice data is never used to train the underlying models.

Does this replace the Invoice Report or the Item Report?

No. Ask Provet is a conversational layer over the same data. The reports stay where they are. Use Ask Provet to get an answer quickly, and use the reports when you need to dig into the details or export.

Is there a cost?

No. Ask Provet comes at no extra charge, with no add-on subscription, for users who have the required reporting permissions.
