AI Actions: Veterinary Software that Charts as You Speak

AI & Automation
AI Actions

It's 6:40 PM. The waiting room emptied an hour ago but you're still at the workstation. There's the terrier from the 2:00 PM appointment whose chart you never finished, the medication you prescribed but didn't add to the record, and the nagging sense that something got missed on the invoice. You know the feeling. Charting that should have happened in the room gets pushed to the end of the day, and the day keeps getting longer.

This is the gap AI Actions is built to close.

What is AI Actions?

AI Actions is a new capability within Provet's Clinical Agent that works alongside AI Scribe. While AI Scribe captures the consultation and drafts your notes, AI Actions reads the clinical detail from the consult and your notes - the diagnoses, medications, treatments, and vitals - and matches each one to the actual items in your Provet database.

Those matched items appear right alongside your notes. You review them, edit anything that needs adjusting, and approve with a click. The items go straight to the medical record. The billable ones go to the invoice. The work that used to wait until after close happens while the patient is still on the table.

Nothing is added without you. AI Actions prepares. You decide and confirm.

A consult before and after AI Actions

Picture a routine afternoon appointment. A dog comes in with a head tilt and an ear that's clearly bothering him. You run the exam, take a temperature and a weight, land on otitis externa, and reach for ear medication. You explain the dosing to the owner, talk through a recheck, and move on. Standard stuff.

Here's what normally happens next. The diagnosis, the medication, the vitals, the recheck, all of it lives in your head or your scribbled notes until you find a moment to type it in. Sometimes that moment is between appointments. Often it's at 8:00 PM. And somewhere in that gap, the medication doesn't make it onto the invoice.

With AI Actions, that same consult plays out differently. As you speak, the diagnosis, the medication, and the vitals are captured and matched to your formulary. By the time you finish, they're sitting in the Actions tab waiting for your review. You look through, confirm the match is right, approve, and the record and invoice are populated before you've left the room.

The detail you mentioned in the moment doesn't have to survive the rest of your afternoon for it to make it onto the chart.

Built to match what's actually in your database

Plenty of tools can pull text out of a transcript. The harder part, and the part that decides whether this saves you any work at all, is matching what you said to what your clinic actually stocks.

AI Actions matches against your clinic's real Provet database. It looks at drug name and strength, and falls back to the active substance when it needs to, so it lands on the item in your formulary rather than a generic name you'd have to look up and replace. If you've set up custom names and search terms, it uses those too. Think of it less as a drug dictionary and more as your clinic's dictionary.

When a match isn't quite right, you fix it in the Actions tab before approving. And if you edit the clinical notes, or something was misheard, you can regenerate the actions so they reflect your changes. The full consultation transcript is always there, so you can check exactly what was said rather than guessing.

Why this matters for the practice, not just the clinician

Missed charges are quiet. No single one feels like much. But across a week, across every clinician, across every busy afternoon where a medication got prescribed and never made it to the invoice, it adds up to real revenue that simply walked out the door.

AI Actions captures charge as the consultation happens, not from memory afterward. For practice owners and managers, that means the invoice reflects the care that was actually delivered. For the clinical team, it means less time spent reconstructing the day and more time for the next patient, or for going home on time.

There's no extra cost. AI Actions comes with AI Scribe, and every Provet user gets 30 minutes free each month, so you can try it from day one.

Built with veterinarians in the room

The matching logic, the review flow, and the way items are grouped weren't designed in isolation. AI Actions was developed alongside Provet's in-house veterinary team and early-access clinics, so it reflects how a consultation actually unfolds rather than how a workflow looks on a whiteboard.

That's also why control sits with you at every step. AI Actions is a semi-automation Agent by design. It suggests. It doesn't finalize. Every item waits in the Actions tab for your judgment before it touches the chart.

Getting started

If your clinic is already using AI Scribe, AI Actions is rolling out to you, no setup required. Start a Scribe session on your next consult, finish the appointment the way you always do, and check the Actions tab when you're done.

The chart that used to wait for you at 8:00 PM might just be finished by the time you walk out of the room.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI Actions included, or is it a paid add-on?

AI Actions comes with AI Scribe at no extra cost. If you already use AI Scribe, AI Actions is available to you with nothing to set up.

Every Provet user is on the Free plan, which includes 30 minutes of AI Scribe each month, and AI Actions is included in that.

For unlimited use, an admin can move a user to the Unlimited plan by assigning a seat, under Settings > Subscription > Clinical AI Subscription. For more information, including the steps to follow to upgrade, visit our Clinical AI Pricing and Subscription guide.

Does AI Actions add items to the chart and invoice automatically?

No. AI Actions extracts items from the consultation and presents them for you to review. Nothing reaches the chart or invoice until you approve it. You can adjust any item first.

What can AI Actions capture during a consultation?

AI Actions captures diagnoses (with primary and secondary classification), medications, treatment items, and vitals or measurements that you mention during the consult.

How does AI Actions match items to my clinic's formulary?

AI Actions matches against your clinic's actual Provet database using drug name and strength, with active substance as a fallback. It uses your custom names and search terms rather than a generic drug list, so items match what your clinic actually stocks.

What happens if AI Actions matches the wrong item?

You can edit the match directly in the Actions tab before approving. If something is misheard, you can also regenerate the actions instead of correcting them manually. The full consultation transcript is also available, so you can check exactly what was said and correct the entry.

Where is my consultation audio stored and for how long?

Audio is stored in your own practice’s cloud. It’s held for 24 hours to support the transcript and your review and then automatically deleted.

Do I still need to review the chart after the consultation?

Yes and that review remains important. Your approval in the Actions tab is the step that puts you in control: AI Actions does the lookup so your job becomes about confirming rather than searching and typing. For complex cases, that confirmation step matters the most.

Does AI Actions work in every language AI Scribe supports?

Yes. AI Actions follows the same language support as AI Scribe. If Scribe can transcribe and summarize in your language, AI Actions will extract items from that transcript.
